  • We have just returned from a brilliant week at Villa Lara.
Carlos was an excellent host. The Villa is super clean, has excellent equipment and is a great location. We paid extra to heat the pool which was well worth it.
Our group was 15 people and we had lots of room. The area is peaceful and friendly. I would highly recommend this villa and company. I hope to be back very soon.

  • We had a wonderful time at Villa Lara. Our group included 20 people and there was plenty of space for us to spread out in this huge home. The sunrise views each morning were magical and we spent so much time outdoors. The house was very well appointed and the kitchen was stocked with everything our group needed. We had chefs come to prepare meals and they also commented on how nice it was to cook in such a large kitchen. Carlos, the owner, was kind and accommodating to our requests. We felt very welcomed and I hope we can return to stay here again in the future.

  • The Villa, the setting, the area is simply wonderful. Feeling so relaxed having spent a week at this fantastic villa. Mr Costa, the owner, could not have been more welcoming and helpful. If you want to enjoy nature, marine life, good food and stunning beaches come here. I will be back without a doubt, love the place.

  • “Maravillosas vacaciones!!!!”

  • “Wonderful Holiday!”
My family & I stayed at Villa Lara in August 2019. We were a large group of 25 (20 adults, 5 children) and we had more than enough space for everyone. Every single person was happy with their rooms & the arrangement overall. The outdoor space was fantastic; the bikes came in handy for exploring the area & the kayaks were in use every day (we also brought a paddleboard from home & the water was calm enough for a good paddle session.) I found the bedrooms very quiet & private once you closed the door so no issues with the larger group. The kitchen was fantastic & well equipped for large groups self-catering. There was nothing we did not have for cooking large meals. It was also great to have multiple refrigerators available. The location with the ferry close by was ideal; exploring Troia by bike, car, foot are all possible & the ferry opened up the options to explore Setubal and further afield. We were able to do a private catamaran trip to go Dolphin watching which was lovely; peaceful & the dolphins were literally right next to us. Magical! We had a chef come to the villa one evening which I would highly recommend. As he had been to Villa Lara previously, he was familiar with the set up & well equipped to provide the meal & service without a hitch. The large supermarket in the marina is well equipped & had plenty of options for meals for a large group for the week. You do need a car to get there and back though. My only two negative comments would be first about the gate from the street to the villa. There was no gate blocking the driveway & as such, we had people walking onto the property multiple times during our stay. This was also a concern with a younger child in our group. Also, I do wish we would have paid to heat the pool. I would not have thought it necessary in Portugal (in August) but turns out if you want to swim later in the day, you definitely should. Would highly recommend this Villa; thank you, Villa Lara, Carlos & Allure Villas for a wonderful setting for a memorable family holiday.

  • “Awesome!!!”
This is a fantastic villa for large groups. It is very well maintained and equipped with ample of everything. We were 15 adults and 4 kids, stayed for 10 nights, we never once felt cramped or crowded, the evenings on the terrace are a memory which will stay with me forever. We had a fantastic holiday. The bicycles and 2 kayaks were the icings on the cake. Villa Lara is conveniently located within walking distance or a 2-minute drive to the ferry terminal should one wish to venture out and see beautiful Portuga

  • “Fantastic”
This is a great villa for a larger group, and even then it’s so large you’re not on top of each other. Very well equipped kitchen (3 coffee machines!). Idyllic location overlooking the river estuary and if you’re lucky you will see the dolphins swim by. You can easily walk to the ferry should you want to see Setubal. Would definitely recommend for any large groups looking for peace and quiet in an idyllic locatio

  • “Great holiday”
We made a family holiday and we were 18 people. The house is great! We loved it. We enjoyed it so much, that most of us are planning to return. The view is so great and we even saw the dolphins when we were taking breakfast. A wonderful holiday!!! ❤

  • “Villa Lara”
We’ve used the villa with a group of 12 ladies, doing workshops for personal growth in combination with yoga. The garden and terrace were inspiring places to do these kind of workshops. When the weather was not cooperative, we have done these workshops in the spacious living (although it was already November, we were lucky with the weather). The yoga we did it on the small private beach next to the river, in the well-maintained garden or in the relax room. The location of the villa is although in a settlement was very quiet and we weren’t disturbed by anybody. Although the ferry between Setubal and the peninsula has its charms, it also has its limitations, when it comes to sailing times especially in the evening. Setubal is a definite “to do” when staying at the villa. In the kitchen we were missing some wineglasses and a juice making machine. Overall the kitchen is very well equipped also for bigger groups. Sleeping rooms and suites are spacious and very neat. The villa manager was very friendly, cooperative and flexible.

  • “Fantastic! And truly difficult to better….”
Villa Lara looks great in the pictures and it doesn’t disappoint in the flesh! Where else in late August in Europe can you find a villa backing straight onto a long, safe and deserted beach?
Villa Lara has everything that a large family holiday needs. Plenty of space for people to have their own space yet plenty of alternative places both inside and out for group meals and entertainment. Kayaks, a fenced off pool, a large range of bicycles, multiple BBQ areas the list goes on and on. The only words of caution are that apart from a pizzeria and swimming pool bar there are no restaurants nearby. We had small children in our group which was fine, but because of the type of railings used the villa is not really toddler-friendly. Despite this, it’s fantastic and worth every penny!

  • “Wonderful Villa for group/big family holiday”
19 of us stayed for a week at the beginning of August this year and we all had an amazing time. There is plenty of space in the house so everyone can have their own space, yet there are some big spaces where you can all gather at once. There are now 2 large BBQs next to each other so there was no problem cooking for everyone at once. Carlos was indeed very helpful and friendly and gives some good tips on arrival. The local shop is expensive, the one in Sol Troia is bigger and slightly cheaper, but we did a big shop at Lidl which is in the nearest town, a half-hour or so drive away. There is not much to do in the local vicinity, other than relax by the pool or on the beach and enjoy the kayaks, bikes etc. But the ferry is very close by and you can easily go to Setubal, or from there get the train into Lisbon for the day…so for us, the location was perfect. We did get a private chef in on two nights – the one recommended by Allure Villas was ok, but we had a number of problems so we wouldn’t recommend. But we found another, Justin Jennings, who was excellent. Slightly more expensive but it was like eating at a Michelin Star restaurant. I was very pleased he (and his wife) provided the dinner on my wife’s birthday as it was truly a birthday treat. In our group, we had a 3-year-old, 3 x 4-year-olds, a 5-year-old and a 6-year-old as well as some older children and adults. We blocked the doors to the balconies and used the stair gates and therefore did not have too many safety concerns; however, there are some gaps around the stairs in particular which could be a risk for younger children. The slope up to the back door also gets very slippery when wet, but the kids soon learnt not to run up/down it! We are already thinking about going back…so would highly recommend.

  • Great Villa”
We were a family group of 18 from six different countries. A great place to meet up, everything we needed, weather perfect. Hope we can all make it back again.

  • “Amazing Villa and fantastic location!”
We stayed in Villa Lara mid September (11 adults and 3 children) and it was perfect. The setting is beautiful, having the beach at the end of the garden and the Atlantic beach a 10 min cycle ride away. The bikes proved invaluable, both to get to the beach and shop, and we even cycled into Troia one day. The pool is a good size and really clean. The whole layout of the Villa and all the facilities were excellent. The only thing that let it down is a very small BBQ (of the 3, the charcoal one looked as though it would fall apart any day so we didn’t use, the gas one works perfectly but is very small, and the electric one is away from the others just outside the kitchen so not ideal). It really needs one large gas one. We coped, just, as there were only 11 adults and 3 small children but I think you would struggle feeding more. That is a very minor thing though as everything else was perfect. The area is stunning, really unspoiled and beautiful, and very relaxing. We would definitely love to come back

  • “A good holiday”
A very good spot. We had 20 people, including 8 children, and it coped well with our needs, although I wouldn’t want any more people there unless you had children using cots (which we didn’t). Villa is is a fab location, and the nearby shop .5k away is adequate, and better than we expected. Facilities at villa (bikes, kayak’s, etc., were well maintained). Beds were good quality, always a big plus for us. Great cooking facilities, and lots of pots and pans, fridge and freezer space, important when catering for this number of people. Only downsides for us were : – no safe – which seemed a major oversight to us, when you have 20 peoples passports and valuables to look after, – games room lighting – also a bedroom, was hard to control, and turns on with a sensor – not good if you are using it as a bedroom too, – high mosquitoes area, – BBQ facilities very poor – 3 small bbq’s (1 gas, 1 elec, 1 bbq), which for this many guests is poor – whilst lots of pans and crockery generally, very few wine glasses and mugs (we bought some ourselves to supplement them!) – not all rooms had fans, again we bought two to supplement them, which we shouldn’t have needed to do Overall though, a very good villa, and friendly service from Allure, locally from Carlos, and good standard of cleaning etc.

  • “Highly recommended!”
Fantastic – Lots of space and lots to do Fabulous spacious villa for large groups. The pictures don’t do it justice. It was spacious, clean and well-maintained with activities to keep all ages happy and space to get away from others too. The big kids loved the pool table in the cellar, the little kids biked around the garden and there were enough bikes for larger groups to go to the bigger beaches. It’s been designed to work for large groups so there were two dishwashers, ovens, and toasters! And as an added bonus, we saw dolphins swimming in the sea from the garden. Highly recommended!

  • “Great for groups of families travelling together”
We were 4 families with children from 2-14 years. It was a great house, that met all our expectations. Children played by the pool, while the calm water on the beach in front of the garden was nice for adults and longer swims. The waves in the colder water on the Atlantic side had great waves for play. For surf, Carvahal Surf School 20 min south had great lessons and waves for family groups. You need a rental car for trips to restaurants 5 km north on the island, or you can use the many bikes in the garage. Though it’s just as nice to walk the 800 mtrs to the ferry, and cross over to Setubal. The cooking facilities and kitchen amenities are great, although a larger gas barbeque would be handy. The mini-market in Sol Troia is 5 min nice cycling away, and for larger supplies, Troia Marina has a good supermarket. Great villa with lots of space. Very helpful and service-minded owner!

  • “It’s exactly what you’re looking for”
This villa is everything you’d expect from the photos. We went as a group of 6 families, kids aged 1 through 15 (21 people in total) and every single person had a fantastic time. It wasn’t overcrowded, the pool is beautiful, the place is all-around excellent. The owner met us on arrival, showed us around the town, and where we could find local food & groceries, gave us a tour of the villa, and then let us be for 7 fantastic days & nights. I would definitely recommend it. If you are looking for nightlife while on holiday we took a quick ferry trip over to Setubal which has good bars & restaurants.

  • “Holiday with family and friends”
We had a group of 22 people aged 14 to 52. We had a wonderful week in Villa Lara, Troia. The villa met all our needs and expectations -even exceeded them. Villa was well equipped and there was enough room for our big group. There was a lot to do: bikes, canoes, billiard, pool, beach etc. also for our youth. We saw dolphins in the river and enjoyed the beaches by the house and by the Atlantic Ocean.

  • “Perfect villa for our family! “
Perfect villa for our family! We (me and my wife and our children and grandchildren – total of 20 persons), rented the villa 11-18 June 2016. Everything was super. From the arrival when Mr Costa junior met us at the villa, until our departure the Mr Costa senior took Farewell of us. The villa has a perfect location and is very big. We never felt crowded. There was always a lot of space for everyone. Super with so many bathrooms – 8 !!! We strongly recommend this villa to all large groups!!!

  • “The Perfect Vacation House for Groups Large or Small”
This house was perfectly set up for our large group of vacationers, which ranged from 14-21 people, including 9 kids. There are 6 bedrooms that have queen beds and bathrooms en suite. It is great to have a house where all the adults have equally nice rooms. There were 2 bunk rooms and a basement room with 5 beds that could sleep up to 7 children. This provided us with lots of flexibility for the kids. The kitchen is large and well-equipped. There is plenty of seating for everyone, but also enough different sized tables that if there is only a small group, you don’t have to feel overwhelmed. We had everything we could possibly need for fun at the house. There’s a great pool, furnished with towels, lots of lawn chairs and even some swim toys. The yard is big enough for a game of football or frisbee golf. The owners gave us access to a kayak which we used to chase the dolphins in the Estuary outback. We saw dolphins several times outback! The house is located a few minute’s walk or drive to the Atlantic Ferry that takes you to Setubal, which made day trips more convenient. There is an incredible Atlantic side beach 5 minutes away from the house, across the street in the Sol Troia development. There is also a snack bar there, which was nice for the kids. In the Troia development about 10 minutes away, there is a grocery store, good enough to feed our group. Troia is located conveniently so that there were several outstanding day trips within 1.5-hour drive, including Lisbon, Sintra, and Evora. Overall, I highly recommend this house for your Portugal vacation.
